This article discusses the evolution and importance of board certification for attorneys. The Internet has given rise to an increase in the number of lawyers representing themselves as qualified specialists in various areas of the law. That has fueled the need for a system by which the public can identify which lawyers are truly capable of protecting the legal rights of their clients.
Author David E. Rapoport of Rapoport Weisberg & Sims P.C. began a two-year term as president of the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification in July 2013. The NBLSC is the oldest and largest attorney certification board accredited by the American Bar Association. Its mission is “to inform and educate the public concerning legal representation by board-certified specialists and recognize and promote excellence in legal advocacy through a national program certifying specialists predicated on high standards of demonstrated competence and integrity.”
