October 22, 2024 – Rapoport Weisberg & Sims has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit in Rock Island County, Illinois against members of a health care team that failed to timely diagnose and treat their patient’s infection. The case alleges that after receiving a cortico-steroid injection to her shoulder, the patient came back to the office with signs and symptoms of a developing infection. The lawsuit alleges that the appropriate tests to diagnose the infection were not ordered. Nevertheless, the one test that was ordered, a CT Scan, did show signs of the infection and should have led to emergent treatment. However, the patient’s providers did not recognize the signs of infection on the CT Scan and misdiagnosed her with inflammation. The patient’s providers then prescribed her a medication that was contraindicated for her infection and worsened the infection. By the time the infection was ultimately diagnosed, the patient required multiple surgeries and has resulting permanent disability. The case was filed and will be prosecuted by trial lawyers Joshua Weisberg and Melanie VanOverloop.
