Lawsuit Filed Following Collision Involving a School Bus

Rapoport Weisberg & Sims P.C. and Stephen Rapp recently filed suit against a school bus driver and his employer after the school bus driver failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and pulled in front of an oncoming motorist, a schoolteacher, in a Jeep traveling at highway speeds. The schoolteacher did not have a stop sign to obey at the intersection, so she had the right of way. The lawsuit alleges that as a result of the school bus suddenly pulling in front of the Jeep, the two vehicles collided. The lawsuit further alleges that due to the severity of the crash, the driver of the Jeep became trapped in her Jeep, which then caught fire with her still trapped inside, setting her on fire as she remained trapped. Eventually the schoolteacher was pulled from her burning Jeep, which exploded just minutes later. The accident shattered the schoolteacher’s left leg and caused extensive burn injuries that required multiple hospitalizations and surgeries. The lawsuit is seeking damages for pain, suffering, disability, disfigurement, emotional distress, medical bills, lost wages, and limitations the young schoolteacher will endure for the rest of her life.
