A 66-year-old man died after his left vertebral artery was injured during a cervical fusion surgery and the artery was not properly repaired. Rapoport Weisberg & Sims P.C. filed a lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Peoria County, Illinois, against the hospital, practice group and doctor involved in the surgery. The lawsuit alleges the defendants improperly assessed the man’s left vertebral artery after it was injured during the surgery; improperly and inadequately treated the artery; and chose not to order an angiogram/arteriogram, properly repair the artery, or make a timely referral to a vascular neurosurgeon or interventional radiologist.
