Rapoport Weisberg & Sims P.C. attorney Octavio Duran became a volunteer mentor for the “Juvenile Initiative Program,” in which 20 lawyers volunteer to meet with 20 young men on probation for nonviolent crimes at least twice each month for a year. The program was recently created by the Chicago Bar Association, the Cook County Bar Association and Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois and several members of the Juvenile Justice Division. The purpose of the program is to provide guidance for these teens with the hopes that they will graduate from high school, go on to college and have successful careers. Mr. Duran said, “I’m excited to be a mentor and to be in a position to help my mentee succeed. I see great potential in him and look forward to getting to know him.” The Chicago Bar Association, the Cook County Bar Association and Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois worked on planning and starting the program.
