A 56-year-old woman hospitalized for a stroke and suffering from multiple deficits, while being assisted by hospital staff from her wheelchair to her bed, fell, suffering a right femoral neck fracture requiring surgical repair. In a medical malpractice lawsuit she filed against the hospital the patient argued the hospital was liable for failing to provide adequate fall protection. This case was settled today before trial for $575,000.
