August 28, 2007 – Rapoport Weisberg Sims & VanOverloop, PC. reached a $1.125 million motor vehicle negligence lawsuit settlement on behalf of a 30-year-old Chicago man who was injured on January 7, 2006, when the driver of a van lost control while traveling westbound on Interstate 80 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. In deteriorating weather conditions with freezing rain, sleet, and ice beginning to cover the roadway, the van slid off the road, rolled onto its side and then struck a tree. A rear-seat passenger in the van, the victim, suffered multiple injuries including skull, facial and scapular fractures. A motor vehicle negligence lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, soon after the accident. The settlement was reached during a mediation session that occurred shortly before the case would have been tried.
