Rapoport Weisberg Sims & VanOverloop P.C. has obtained a $300,000 policy limit settlement for the family of a 14-year-old boy who drowned during a boating trip to Browns Lake in Burlington on July 14, 2009. The teenager was taken to the lake by a school teacher along with four other classmates. After the kids boarded the boat and the teacher drove to an area of the lake about 10 feet deep, the teenager jumped into the lake without a life jacket attempting to swim, but he started drowning. The school teacher, who had no knowledge of the teenager’s swimming abilities nor any training about how to rescue a person from drowning, was unable to save him. Attorney Joshua L. Weisberg served as lead counsel.
