Rapoport Weisberg Sims & VanOverloop attorney Octavio Duran concluded his participation in the “E-mentoring Program” organized by the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association. Through the program, Mr. Duran was matched up with a high school student from a Chicago public school to discuss legal topics once a week. The topics ranged from basic contract law to more detailed evidentiary matters. It was a privilege for Mr. Duran to work with such an inspiring and bright school student. “I was inspired by my mentee’s dedication and perseverance. He’s had a rough upbringing and yet he is still focused on going to college and law school.”
At the conclusion of the event, Mr. Duran queried his mentee through a mock interview for a job. He also interviewed other students whose mentors were unable to make the event. “I gave these students general pointers that ranged from having the right level of confidence to having sufficient, interesting content in their resumes to help them stand out. It seemed they were very appreciative of my help.”
