A JB Hunt semi truck collided with two vehicles on Interstate 88 near Naperville Wednesday evening, injuring two fellow motorists. The truck accident left all three vehicles severely damaged, but fortunately led to no life-threatening injuries. Traffic was backed up for several hours.
The accident occurred when the semi failed to brake quickly enough when traffic forced a slow down. The truck ran into the back of a Honda Accord. The wrecked Accord was pushed out of the way by the impact. The truck still had not slowed sufficiently, however. It ran into the back of the red Subaru that had been in front of the Accord. At this point, the truck had slowed sufficiently to come to a stop in the left hand lane of I-88.
The accident highlights the importance of attentive driving for everyone, but it is particularly important in the case of commercial trucks. By driving too close and too fast, trucks pose a serious threat to all motorists. In this case, one moment of inattention destroyed two vehicles and sent their drivers to the emergency room.
Multiple emergency vehicles, including fire trucks, an ambulance and several police cruisers responded to the accident. The injured victims, whose information has not been released, were taken to the Edward Hospital emergency room for further treatment.
