Rapoport Weisberg Sims & VanOverloop reached a $1.315 million motor vehicle negligence lawsuit settlement on behalf of a father whose 10-year-old daughter suffered fatal personal injuries after the vehicle she was riding in was hit by a semitruck that had crossed the median of an interstate highway and entered the oncoming lanes of traffic. The tractor-trailer was hauling in excess of 35,000 pounds of steel contained in three coils secured to the flatbed trailer. During the semitruck crash sequence, the coils became unsecured and one landed on the vehicle containing the minor child. This motor vehicle negligence case was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois last year and a trial was to begin in October.
